Prime Minister Petr Fiala will announce this morning how he will proceed after the resignation of Justice Minister Pavel Blažek due to the controversial gift of bitcoins. President Pavel is prepared to dismiss Blažek and negotiate about his successor, most often ODS MP Eva Decroix is mentioned in this context. Pavel also said on Monday that he does not consider it appropriate for the entire government to resign over the case four months before the elections, the portal Ceskenoviny.cz reported.
Blažek announced on Friday that he is resigning due to a problematic gift of bitcoins from Tomáš Jiřikovský, who ended up in prison in 2017 for embezzlement, drug trafficking, and illegal arming. The cryptocurrency donated to the state yielded a billion crowns, which Blažek proposed to divide for various purposes in the budget. There was nothing illegal about the transaction and it was not proven that the gift came from criminal activity, he said.
