Taťána Pánek Makarenko is the founder and director of the Miss Czech Republic competition, which she has been leading since 2010, initially under the name Miss Face Czech Republic. Under her leadership, Miss has become a prestigious competition with an international reach. She places a great emphasis on discipline, hard work, and attention to detail, which is reflected in the successes of their finalists. In this year's edition, she collaborated with the Czech National Bank to help break stereotypes associated with beauty contest participants. You will learn about her beginnings and her views on today's women in the following interview.
I feel good, full of adrenaline. It doesn't seem like it. I'm exhausted, I've slept little x weeks, but I don't feel tired. I feel full of energy because the adrenaline that's now, it's the result of that year and those preparations. I must say, it was intense, but I enjoyed it. The final ten were very capable, mature, and perceived everything we were saying. They very quickly applied the advice.
Definitely not. We had a photoshoot of all the winners and media week right after the finale. With all the winners and the main winner, we went to offices and did interviews. This week is more free for me, but I'm dealing with bureaucracy again - invoices, everything I have to pay, how much energy I used at Forum Karlin, water, heat. I'm always obviously stressed about paying all that, but on May 22 I'm going on vacation.
It's a large sum. Just the finale cost us 10 million, which is quite a lot. It doesn't seem like it, but that space is expensive, that stage. We are constantly enlarging it. Everything we have is custom made directly for us. The fill of those LED screens that the audience sees, it's not downloaded from any photo bank, but it's custom made, so it costs hundreds of thousands. I pride myself on such things and I hope that a person who understands it sees that it’s not regular falling meadow flowers from a database.
Linda has an x factor, referred to as high social intelligence. This is incredibly important. She is very intelligent and educated, but she has a subliminal perception that other finalists did not have as strong. She perceived absolutely everything and absolutely understood what was expected of her. These are such details, but the entire team agreed that this young lady really wants it. All the time she was showing us "I am here, I really want it and I will work hard for you". Linda is ready to work, she is ready to dedicate herself to it and she is ready to invest energy and time into Miss for a whole year. This is the kind of person I am looking for.
I need a woman who will be determined and will dispel myths that Misses are not only beautiful but also intelligent.
Most importantly, she will win the hearts of others and Linda has a big heart for everyone.
Not really. I think I have a very strong character. I don't even understand how I don't succumb so much to stress. I control absolutely everything here. I sit at the dress rehearsal and say "you have a small logo here, turn on the logo, the wrong color light shines here, I need a different color of lights in the hall etc.", so I am here to control everything. Actually, there isn't really anyone else who would do it for me, because everyone says they don't see such details and that only I see them and I love it. For me, it is a lifestyle, I live by it and it entertains me.
So, thanks to Miss, I actually feel needed in this world. It seems to me that this is my position, which is probably important for the youth, for young women.
I am happy that I can mentor them for the next steps.
I want people to see that these ladies really have something in their heads. I think there's still such a dogma here that Miss can't be smart. Miss should of course be beautiful in the first place, because it's some physical beauty. However, she must have other things and one of them is really intelligence and of course education. She must be talented and must be ready to work, because not every young woman is ready to work and constantly be under great pressure.
I wanted to show that they are worthy of educating young people about financing, about investments, about financial literacy.
That's a bit lacking here today, it's not taught in schools. Therefore, we arranged a meeting with the Czech National Bank, and with Governor Aleš Michl, we agreed that this is the right step for people to start taking Miss seriously, and at the same time for CNB to show that it supports Miss Czech Republic.
I've been investing since I was eighteen. Perhaps I've earned from fourteen when I did my first modeling jobs abroad, I traveled. I had a model's salary very early on. I started working part-time from the age of twelve when I was washing windows at a gas station. I bought my first phone because I didn't come from any rich family, so I had to earn my first phone. I washed those windows for two months so I could afford it already at twelve years old. Therefore, managing investments is very important for me and I try to do it correctly. I think carefully about what I buy and what I don't. I have been putting into mutual funds and other things since I was eighteen, where
I have a few apartments. It's very important to me.Perhaps those mutual funds. Then it depends of course on the city and country, but certainly a flat or an entire house is something that can remain for us and we can then give it to our children.
Thank you very much for the interview.
