At the Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, although film plays the main role, fashion also has its firm place. It's no surprise, then, that we met one of the most famous domestic fashion designers, Jan Černý, on the red carpet. He has had his share of controversy. During the interview, he revealed approximately how much his outfit cost, what he invests in, and much more.
One of the waves of controversy was stirred up by his proposal for the Olympic team kit for Czech athletes at the Summer Olympics in 2024. In it, he used a military style of bomber jacket, modern Japanese nylon, a Rorschach pattern inspired by Vladimír Boudník, and even a hand-made glass amulet from Lasvit.
Another wave of controversy was brought by his this year's "workman" collection of uniforms for the national pavilion at the World EXPO in Osaka. The public's reaction was at least as mixed as the proposals for the Olympics.
Jan Černý has been heard in the past to say that his great inspirations are village aesthetics, worker culture, and streetwear, which is richly reflected in his work. For example, he sews fashionable coats and pants with avant-garde elements from durable work fabrics.
When asked what movie title he would name his life after, he answered fittingly.
"My little village mounting. I also enjoy coveralls in creation."
He's not afraid to experiment, which he demonstrated directly in Karlovy Vary. For this year's event, he designed a very unconventional outfit for Anna Geislerová – he made her dress out of beer bottles.
Jan Černý revealed in an interview, among other things, that he actively invests.
“I have some cryptocurrencies, but not too many. I own real estate and invest in stocks.”
