Eliška Dospivová is often referred to in public spaces as the former wife of billionaire Marek Dospiva, sometimes she is still written about as his wife. However, she is pursuing a completely different path, working in interior design, which she perceives as her life's mission. In an interview, she spoke openly about how she is perceived by others, why modeling was not a ticket for her into business, what projects she is currently preparing and how she views the current development of the real estate market.
Eliška Dospivová has been involved in the world of design for many years, and although the public often associates her name primarily with her ex-husband, entrepreneur and billionaire Marek Dospiva, she can't even remember how long they haven't been together.
"That's the worst part. We haven't been together for a very long time, and every article starts with the fact that I am not his ex-wife, but his wife. It's hard, but maybe it sells more or I don't know,"
comments on the persisting label that continues to accompany her even years after her divorce in 2016.
She speaks calmly and reconciled about Marek Dospiva, with whom she has two daughters. Even after the divorce, they stayed in contact and, as she says herself, their relationship improved over time.
"We have a very professional relationship and paradoxically it's even better than before."
Yet her professional career has little to do with the public image of "a woman by the side of a billionaire". She speaks about business with a perspective and honesty that testify to deep interest and long-term experience. Despite having been a model in the past, she believes it had no impact on her professional path.
"Not at all," she briefly replies to the question of whether modelling influenced her entrepreneurial journey. And she explains: "Definitely not. That's makes it even harder. I have to prove to everyone that it's not just about beauty, but that there is also something inside."
Today, Eliška designs interiors, according to her words without unnecessarily following rapidly changing trends. She is guided by experience and her own feelings.
"I try to create timeless things, so I don't completely follow the trends. I am mainly guided by intuition and experience. I've been doing it for a very long time. It seems to me, for a lifetime."
Currently, she is working on smaller projects, which gives her more freedom and space for creativity. "Now I'm doing something smaller, but that makes it nicer, because I have a free hand."
One of the projects she partially contributed to was the well-known Prague building, Masaryčka. "I wasn't the architect, but I tried to supervise those architects," she explains.
Her current work mainly involves residential interiors. "Currently I'm working on small projects. Some apartments and now on Pařížská Street I'm designing a nice small apartment." And Pařížská, one of the most expensive streets in Prague, has also become a symbol of increasing property prices in recent years.
"So of course, the prices of flats will keep rising. It seems to me that it has to end sometime, but it keeps going up. In Pařížská, it has slowly climbed to similar prices as in Dubai. But I think it will stabilize," she comments on the development of the real estate market.
Although she designs even in luxurious locations, she herself would reportedly not like to live on Pařížská. "No, I would not want to," she simply says.
Eliška Dospivová identifies with the growing trend of interest in quality design and valuable interiors. She doesn't bet on ostentatiousness, but on a thoughtful approach and aesthetics that last. According to her, that's the future.
"I mainly go by intuition and experience." These words accurately describe her approach to everything she does, whether she's designing an interior or trying to change public perception of herself.
