For many, it's just a side job, while some live from part-time work. Students very often prefer flexibility, a friendly approach, and planning shifts at the last minute. However, not to box anyone in, it's not just teenagers with students who are interested in part-time jobs, the interest is also growing among older citizens. They often use it as a modest side job to their pension. How much is enough and how much is too little? This was exclusively revealed to us by a few university students.

Everyone had to go through this. The first jobs and for some, also the first encounter with reality. Behind the bar, at the grill or maybe mopping the floor. The work can really vary, but one thing is usually common. A pretty meager hourly wage. Not everyone is willing to work continuously for several hours for a minimum wage, so they are looking for better options. And they can be found. The rewards for these jobs, however, change according to potential experience, willingness, and especially skillfulness. People who have a broader and more diverse resume are likely to do better with these types of jobs.

Demands Increase with Age

When applying for a job, the candidate's age is very crucial, as everyone considers something else important. Workers under thirty-three years of age usually expect lower wages on average than older colleagues. Interest of older people in part-time jobs has significantly increased in recent years, according to online work agency Tymbe. The reason is to use the part-time job as an additional income to the usually main employment relationship.

What is the same for both generations is an interest in flexibility. Long gone are the days when a person planned shifts a month in advance. This change is significantly due to digitization and its implementation in the work environment. Thanks to various apps and systems, part-timers can sign up for shifts even a day in advance. This helps, for example, students in the possibility of combining the exam period and work. According to the available analysis, up to one third of workers prefer possible flexibility at work.

Companies benefit from high interest in part-time jobs

Companies handle the issue of part-time jobs in various ways. Sometimes equating to illness, or maternity by recruiting part-timers, other times the so-called cheap labor force essentially runs the entire company. One thing is for sure. In the pre-Christmas period, the demand for part-time jobs increases rapidly, and that is certain every year. But the same is true the other way around. During the Christmas period, almost everyone wants to earn extra money, so the interest in the possibility of an extra income is increasing. The demand during this period increases by as much as thirty percent.

According to the analysis, about thirty-five percent of workers require a wage in the range of 141 to 160 crowns per hour. Another twenty-six percent expect at least 161 to 180 crowns per hour.

"I think every student or part-time worker should have at least 150 crowns per hour, to survive at today's prices."

Says for LP-Life.cz high school student Eliáš.

Compared to last year's data, the situation has changed this year. Given that the interest in part-time jobs is constantly increasing, a so-called competitive environment is created. This causes companies, due to constant interest, not to consider it necessary to increase the hourly rate at all.

"It depends on the type of work you do, what benefits you get from your part-time job, etc., but generally offering a minimum wage and wondering why you can't find anyone is laughable. Not only job seekers compete in the job market, but also employers. For me, ideally at least 160 crowns."

Student and long-term part-timer, Jasmína, expressed for the magazine LP-Life.cz.

Part-timers do not have to worry that they will not find any work. There is really a lot of it on the market. It is more important for them to look for adequate rewards and not to be satisfied with just the minimum. But what do we know? Maybe next year the situation for part-timers will be completely different.
