British television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who was one of the main faces of the motoring show Top Gear, announced that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. However, his cult following is certainly not ending. He announced that the disease is easing. Besides, he has a number of followers.
In the latest episodes of the fifth season of his show Clarkson's Farm, released by the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, host Jeremy Clarkson revealed that he is suffering from an advanced form of prostate cancer.
At the end of the final episode of this season, Clarkson is lying in a hospital bed.
"Let's say the treatment went a bit wrong, so I'll be here for a while longer. I'm not allowed to eat or drink anything and I don't know how it will turn out. But if all goes well, we'll see each other in the sixth season. And if not, then not,"
said on television.
The sixty-six-year-old face of motorsport further added that the disease was detected "really at an early stage". Since then, he has undergone surgery in which doctors removed a tenth of his prostate.
At the same time, however, after several days, he emphasized that his treatment is in decline and that the sixth series of Clarkson's Farm is already filming. The journalist therefore calls himself "the luckiest man in the world".
Worldwide, Clarkson became famous primarily as the host of the BBC show Top Gear. In 2011, he was also present for what might be the best Škoda advertisement in history. In the first episode of the seventeenth season, Clarkson tested the very first SUV from Mladá Boleslav.
The Yeti was subjected to truly unusual challenges, as it was compared with a Ferrari and a Range Rover. The Yeti passed all these tests, even withstanding firefighters. The British host really fell in love with the car and still considers it one of his favorites. He even had a helicopter land on its roof. The Czech SUV quickly became a hit.
However, Clarkson lost his position at Top Gear in 2015. This happened after one of the long filming days when he wanted something to eat. When he found out there was no catering on site, he punched his longtime colleague, producer Oisin Tymon, in the face. In support of the popular presenter, an online petition titled Bring Back Jeremy Clarkson with the note Freedom for Fights was created, which had hundreds of thousands of signatures.
His mission at the BBC ended after he received a final warning from the bosses when he used a racist word in a children's rhyme during filming. He admitted his guilt and apologized. He then publicly admitted that he received a warning from the bosses: one more attack or remark, anywhere and anytime, would lead to his dismissal. Less than a year later, the threats materialized, and Clarkson was suspended.
Journalists found him in West London, where he lives, drinking in a local pub. He commented on the situation with these words:
“I have a nicely chilled pint here and I'm waiting for it to blow over.”
In the end, it didn't blow over, and he had to take a break from work.
After less than a year, he began collaborating with Amazon, where, along with his Top Gear colleagues Richard Hammond and James May, he created another show focusing on cars. However, after nearly two decades of shooting together, they eventually concluded that they were too old to continue appearing in that type of show.
They have been replaced by a new trio of hosts consisting of popular YouTubers and internet creators Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman, and Thomas Holland.
They are certainly not amateurs. Judge for yourself. Francis Bourgeois became famous as an internet sensation with his viral videos about trains and railways. He is also a trained mechanical engineer with prior experience at Rolls-Royce, making him a big automotive enthusiast. James Engelsman is an experienced automotive journalist and host of the popular channel Throttle House. And Thomas Holland? He is the co-founder and another content creator on the Throttle House channel, known especially for his passion for high-performance cars.
Back to Clarkson. After leaving Amazon, the successful series Clarkson's Farm followed, capturing his attempts to run a farm he owns in central England.
However, he did not abandon his reputation as a controversial figure during this period. Four years ago, the British journalistic organization IPSO received a record number of complaints based on his comment, in which he wrote, among other things, that he despises Meghan, the wife of British Prince Harry.
He wrote at the time that he finds Meghan "repulsive on a cellular level" comparable to serial killer Rose West. He also noted that he "dreams of the day when she has to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain, while crowds chant 'shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her." His daughter Emily was among the critics, expressing that she is "against everything dad wrote about Meghan Markle."
Clarkson promised to be more careful with his comments in the future, but he has not yet apologized for his words … .
