New York Fashion Week once again confirmed that it is one of the most influential fashion events in the world. And not only for designers, but also for fashion fans who were already eagerly waiting for their share of inspiration. And the truth is, this year you will find countless models on the runway that you can wear for everyday wear and you will look perfect. Although - we did focus on the slightly more controversial ones.

With much pomp, voices are sounding at the New York Fashion Week aiming at sustainability, authenticity and stories that have roots. Fashion is no longer just about luxury, but also about values reflecting social and cultural interests. There were collections on display that are betting on luxurious materials, layering, oversized cuts, and small hand-made details. Undeniably, the nineties and the check pattern are making a comeback - remember the movie Clueless?

During the show, it was clear that the fashion world no longer settles for just beautiful dresses on a perfect model who walks down the runway. The scene was tuned to the last detail and some brands tried not only to tell their story, they also relied on social media discussions. Perhaps they wanted to tear down the belief that fashion is only for the elites. Join us to look at models, that would definitely not sink to the bottom in your closet!

Little black just for the brave

When these dresses by Frederick Anderson appeared on the runway, it was as if time stood still in the hall for a moment. Little black got a new definition. No austere classic, but a dramatic moment full of elegance and nobility. At first glance, the dress balances between tenderness and power and is exactly the piece that will not let you blend in with the crowd.

Although the dress has a very daring cut and not everyone would dare to wear it outside the fashion show ramp, its strong point is that any figure wonderfully stands out in it and it looks very luxurious. The transparent material adds playfulness to the whole model and has a "couture vibe". If you were to have one dress in your closet for a better occasion, it would definitely be this one.

A Negligee to Greet Your Visitors

Whether it's a new addition to your bedroom or the thought that even pajama fashion belongs on the red carpet, Tanner Fletcher hasn't yet revealed. However, if you were to have one luxury item in your drawer that would bewilder your cherished other half, it would certainly be this one.

The material is seductive, moves beautifully while walking, and a satin negligee with black lace combined with a bathrobe is a sophisticated way to puzzle even a cat sleeping on a couch. It's as if a celebration of femininity, self-confidence, and the reminder that looking good even while sleeping isn't a bad thing at all is making a comeback on the runway. Whether Fletcher intended it as an outfit for the red carpet, we would be a bit hesitant, wondering whether such audacity pays off. On the other hand, it is still more elegant than the models of director Eva Toulová, who regularly shocks in the Czech pond at every event - and often wears even less fabric.

The Show that Stole New York for Itself

At this year's New York Fashion Week, there were a number of prominent collections, but if we were to choose the one that truly captured attention, it would be Bronx & Banco. Their show was like a precisely directed theater. They knew what they wanted to say and they managed to present it with an unbelievable dose of self-confidence.

The brand bet on sensuality, luxury and bold silhouettes. Smooth satin materials were clinging to the body and colors were used that reminded of autumn, which was a very nice detail. Bronze, caramel, chocolate, bold brown, white. Bold accessories on individual outfits did not seem unnecessary but underscored the overall effect. And the exposed body on individual models was saying only one thing - that fashion can be sexy without looking cheap. Extravagance can be tastefully approached, and when a designer has a bit of sense for aesthetics, the audience does not even blink during the show. This was also confirmed this time and it is no wonder that the outfits of Bronx & Banco were one of the most anticipated.

What will be worn in spring 2026?

  • Waist accessories: Thick belts, cummerbunds, peplums, belt bags or belts worn over dresses or coats. These all were elements that appeared across collections. Emphasizing the waist is a way to add silhouette, shape, contrast, and a bit of drama to an otherwise ordinary outfit.
  • Bright colors: Across the shows bright colors are appearing, such as cerulean (bright blue-turquoise), various shades of pink, yellow, red accents. These colors are often combined with earthy, neutral tones, creating a pleasant contrast, but not a crazy chaos.
  • Wave of minimalism: Although many models were visually very striking, a large part of the collections worked with minimalist silhouettes. Clean lines, elegant simplicity, but complemented by details such as piping, interestingly gathered parts, asymmetry or small contrasts. This is a trend that allows you to use the pieces for everyday wear, but at the same time adds the necessary flair.
  • Vintage details & nostalgia: Prints like flowers and dots, retro cuts (sometimes even looser or inspired by the 70s/80s), scarves, scarf tops, layering around the waist. All this often appeared as a memory of the past with a modern touch.
  • Denim: Jeans remain a basic element, but not just any. Feel free to bet on metallic details, combination of materials, skirts and jackets.

Why, why, why?

The asymmetric dress from the Diotima collection in a combination of raspberry red and neon yellow is apparently intended to be a bold experiment with color and shape. The reality, however, is different. The result looks more like an unfinished project, where a blouse from the office clashed with a carnival skirt. Neon stripes pretend to add flair, but in reality, they break up the whole and seem unbalanced.

The dress may aspire to be original, but instead of a modern contrast, an unpleasant chaos is created, which is hard to even look at. The top resembles a school uniform, the bottom part a dance competition costume... And all together it doesn't make sense. It's a piece that rather belongs in a discussion about what else can be called fashion. Nice try, Diotima. So maybe next time.

When an experiment turns into a mess

It seems as if Tanner Fletcher is trying to grab attention at all costs, so he gives the model on the runway everything he can find backstage. A beautiful woman in a white blouse holding a vase is something we could have easily overlooked. The combination of a silk blouse with a stand-up collar and lace details with sweatpants appears as if the model changed hastily and took the first items she found. It's such a typical clothing of American series when the main heroine runs into the local convenience store for something for dinner. While the individual pieces are not bad, overall it doesn't work together at all, which is a big shame.

The impression then arrives with a scarf over the head and miniature glasses. The whole thing looks more like a scene from an avant-garde theater than wearable clothing, although Adidas recently introduced similar pants. Bell-bottom "swish" trousers that can be pulled down with a rubber band and are a universal piece in the wardrobe. Unfortunately, they do not even catch the eye here, although they are very beautiful. The styling of the whole outfit has unfortunately completely failed, which is a great pity.

And beside the point again...

Was there any fabric left in the workshop? Does my skirt have a dual use, for wearing and snuggling up on the couch? All questions and no effect. The Diotima brand introduced a model in which it bet on a black top with distinctly shaped models, but the lower part completely walled the whole idea. The massive brown skirt already looks like an unpleasant material. It may not be true, but wouldn't it discourage you from buying in the first minute? An outfit that might have passed as a work of art, but on a fashion show, where we expect inspiration for real life, it rather causes perplexities.

But let's highlight that brands are no longer afraid to invite models who have curves to the runways, even at the most prestigious events. These are not "twiggy" models, yet they can wear the most beautiful dresses. Unfortunately, it didn't work this time, which is undoubtedly not the fault of the charming model, but of the designer who presumably had left over fabric in the workshop. Perhaps this is the only possible explanation.

Of interest, however, is the fact that Rachel Scott launched the Diotima brand just over four years ago and has been regularly placing in various competitions and winning awards ever since. And this was her first fashion show, which perhaps only asked for someone who would bring the resulting models to perfection and release them onto the runway with the thought "Wow, I want this in my closet!" Hand on heart, this skirt definitely won't be it.
