The Court of Appeal in London confirmed the claim of the Czech-Swiss entrepreneur Josef Šťáva for billion-dollar compensation in the Diag Human case for obstructed blood plasma trade in the 90s. The claim for damages was awarded to Šťáva by international arbitrators in 2022. Half of the sum consists of damage caused by the state, the other half is interest that accumulated between the years 1992 and 2007. However, the total sum is also increasing by another interest of 1.3 million crowns daily, counting from 2007. Currently, the amount is around 17 billion crowns.
Heavy rain and floods have killed 34 people in Beijing. The most affected were the Miyun and Yanqing districts. Both are located in the outskirts of the city. As a result, more than 80,000 people were displaced from their homes. By Tuesday midnight, more than 16 centimeters of rainfall had fallen. In the epicenter, it was even 54 centimeters, reported by the AP agency. Authorities in Miyun district have released water from the local reservoir, which was at its highest level since its construction in 1959.
