Firefighters on Thursday fought for the second day one of the most tragic fires in modern Hong Kong history, during which several skyscrapers burned down and at least 44 people died. Three men from a construction company were arrested and rescue work continued. The fire, which broke out on Wednesday afternoon, spread to seven of the eight buildings in the complex and by morning four towers were under control.
Among the 44 confirmed victims was a firefighter, officials said. At least 71 people were injured, many of them suffered burns and injuries caused by smoke inhalation. According to the AP agency, firefighters said the operation could last at least until Thursday evening.
