The Karlovy Vary festival is not just about films. It's a fashion ring, where courage, elegance, and sometimes even a sense of humor win. Come and join us in a review of gowns that remained in the memory of not only fans, but often also in the hearts of fashion critics.
If the esteemed fashion critics eagerly anticipate anyone each year, it's actress Jitka Čvančarová. She usually isn't afraid of bold designs that no one can overlook on the red carpet. However, she didn't receive much praise years ago when she wore a dazzling blue dress with giant sleeves and a Cinderella-style corset. Some even compared her to a swimming pool in discussions - and not just because of the colour of her dress, but also the width of the skirt.
It’s also a rule that Čvančarová usually bets on her feminine curves and is not afraid to show them off on the red carpet. But what about the others?
Actress Klára Issová then stood out in a model that could boldly compete for the strangest pattern of the entire decade. A black dress and over it a brightly yellow network resembling either art from textile classes, or a miniature decorative fishing net - it all didn't make much sense. Klára, with her perfect figure, could have allowed herself much more years ago.
It was bold, playful, but also quite controversial. Some people saw it as a fashion cry "into the dark", but when someone decides to experiment with fashion, they should go all in. And Klára did.
Entrepreneur Ornella Koktová arrived at the red carpet as if from another world and the tabloids had a feast. The olive-colored fabric on Ornella shone like a freshly polished leaf and the top? It unnecessarily widened her shoulders. She was then nicknamed Droběna, as a memory of the popular fairy tale Three Wishes for Cinderella.
However, it must be said that Ornella wore such a model at a time when it still seemed that she was finding herself. She became famous due to her relationship with her current husband Josef Kokta. They got together when he was still married to the presenter Gabriela Partyšová. Today, Ornella knows exactly what suits her and does not need to draw attention to herself. Recently, she has also lost a lot of weight and looks fantastic. And as she revealed, she is also planning to go to Vary this year. So we'll see what models she brought with her this time.
Spangles, sequins, colors – that's what actress Eva Podzimkova was not afraid of a few years ago. She decided to light up the red carpet literally like a disco from the eighties. The dress reflected the lights so strongly that it probably disturbed the cameramen standing outside in front of the Thermal.
But it is one of the boldest models that we have seen on Eva over the years. She usually chooses black or white, recently she also surprised when she cut her long dark hair completely short. It is certain that she is not afraid of changes in life. And if she wanted to attract attention with such a dress, she succeeded fantastically. This is exactly the model that you either fall in love with, or it bounces in your ears. And that's actually right in Vary.
At first glance, an elegant dress in the color of ripe merlot and a cut that would suit even an ancient goddess. Such was worn years ago by the actress Petra Nesvačilová. Her hair braided into small braids lessened the seriousness and allowed Petra to look mischievous. But then it comes. There is a colorful hummingbird sparkling on the side, which either landed there by mistake, or is a message to fashion critics that Petra takes it all with a grain of salt.
The green handwriting outfit breaks up the color, but it might also be a little confusing. A gold or silver detail would probably work better here to highlight the evening style. Overall, though, it's a pleasant classic - albeit with a small twist. Sometimes less is enough, and it almost clicked here. And the Hummingbird is simply a matter of opinion.
Whether in energetic coral with exposed shoulders or in golden lace with a delicate floral decor, Andrea Bartošková was a quiet but noticeable star of the festival every year. She never needed to show off, yet she stood out. While many famous women tried to amaze at all costs, she opted for effortless charm and nobility, which were inherent to her. Beside her husband Jiří Bartoška, she always seemed like the prettiest ornament, without even trying.
If the Karlovy Vary festival was to have its first lady of fashion, it was precisely her.
On others, this print might have seemed like a creative reference to the 70s. But Ester missed the mark this time. A weird geometric motif in khaki tones, coupled with a cut that unnecessarily highlights every fold, and the result? An unfortunate whole that unnecessarily overshadows an otherwise beautiful figure and face.
Ana next to her in a jacket with a belt reminded that simplicity is often the biggest win.
