Ewa Farna released the single Měls mě vůbec rád at the age of 13

From a small girl from Třinec, who dreamed of a career as a lawyer, she became one of the most prominent faces of the Czech-Polish music scene. Ewa Farna now sells out stadiums, speaks openly about the pressure on women in terms of appearance, and her husband sacrificed his own career for her to support her on her way to the top. All this with humility, diligence and persistence. When journalists ask her what else she would like to achieve, she is clear. To raise healthy and confident children. And to still have a close relationship with her family, which is everything to her. It's no wonder that she has no competition in the Czech show business.

The couple matches perfectly on stage

Not long ago, singer Ewa Farna dreamed of sitting in a courtroom. After graduation, she enrolled in the law school in Warsaw and for a time tried to be not only a successful musician, but also a diligent student. However, after some time, she interrupted her studies due to work commitments and a burgeoning career, which could only be difficult to reconcile with. She herself said at the time that she tried it mainly for herself and as a backup in case her music career did not work out. However, she no longer needs to fear that.

Today she stands on the stage in front of thousands of fans, receiving standing ovations. And her latest success just confirms it. Ewa Farna indeed sold out Prague's Eden and confirmed that she is one of the biggest stars of both Czech and Polish music scene. However, her journey was not easy. Behind this success lie years of hard work, courage and great sacrifice. Not only hers, but also her husband's.

Husband on maternity leave

Ewa grew up in Třinec and from an early age she stood out not only with her musical talent, but also with her academic results. But when she released her first single You hardly loved me at thirteen, which smashed the charts, it was almost certain. In 2017, she married musician Martin Chobot, with whom she has two children. You may not see them on social media, but Ewa has never hidden that family is her priority. But at the same time, she never planned to give up music. In order to balance motherhood and career, a bold decision was made. Martin temporarily gave up his musical path and took care of the household. And the fact that the singer appreciates this is evidenced by how often she speaks about her husband with respect and gratitude.

"When I played with her, we went to concerts with her mom, who babysat for us. But it was not sustainable in the long term. Now I'm with the kids more often. When Ewa is at concerts, I'm at home with them. For the most part, I'm on parental leave, last year I was really with them a lot," Martin said in an interview for CNN Prima News. Together with Ewa, they are raising son Artur and daughter Ella. But now he is also slowly returning to his music career. In 2022, he released his own album titled Slightly Open Doors. He was in the band with Ewa for twelve years, but in the end they decided that it would be better to separate careers. Everyone has their own, they create music that they enjoy. And then they can talk about not only work at home.

Ewa's family privacy is very carefully protected, but Martin was a bit more forthcoming about his past. So it is no secret that he has a very tough life story behind him. “My mom committed suicide when I was fourteen. And at the moment when my first child was born, I thought: 'How could you do this to me, when you felt towards me what I feel for him?' I thought I had it covered, but the birth of children has reopened it in me. I dealt with it through songs. At this moment I feel sorted out with it," Martin revealed in an interview for iDNES.cz, whose mother suffered repeated domestic violence. She spoke about it in a documentary of the Czech television from 2003.

Pressure from the tabloids and intoxicating successes

Even though Ewa has been enjoying a career at the very top for many years, she also had very unpleasant experiences with the tabloids. She faced comments about her weight almost from the onset of adolescence - both when she gained and lost weight. Comments about her figure were on the cover pages of newspapers and often also the subject of discussion on social networks. And sometimes they were sharper than the music criticism itself. It seemed as if some people felt like they could "kick" the young teenage singer without hesitation. But Ewa did things her way. Instead of drastic diets, she began publicly talking about a healthy relationship with the body, recorded a song Hips like a wardrobe and began to point out that real happiness is a healthy body. Regardless of clothing size. She followed up with the song Body, in which she thanked for being able to bring two healthy children to the world.

The theme of self-acceptance has manifested itself so much in her brand that it transformed tabloid pressure into a driving force that eventually led her to a sold-out Eden. She will thus become the first Czech singer to sing for such a large audience. And not only that, she recently added another date for more fans who didn't manage to get a ticket for the first date.

And it's not just the fulfilled dream of a woman who, as a young girl, topped the charts. Her recent success, when she took to the concert stage alongside singer Dua Lipa with her song On the Knife's Edge, showed that she is one of the most prominent figures in the Czech music scene. "I feel that I've accomplished a lot over the past thirty years, maybe that's why I don't have any down moments. If I continue at this pace, life will be varied. Singing has been my hobby and my job for more than half of my life, in addition to that I've had time to develop a private life, i.e. have children, a husband. I take all of this as a huge blessing and I feel very grateful, I just wish it lasts," she confessed in an interview for Novinky.cz.
