The son of a policewoman initiated a shooting at Florida State University with her former service weapon, reportedly killing two people and injuring six more, according to authorities. The alleged shooter, twenty-year-old student Phoenix Ikner, began firing around lunchtime near the student union building in the state capital Tallahassee.
The suspect was shot by police and taken to the hospital. The motive for the crime is unclear. The deceased were not students, said university police, but their identities have not been disclosed. The suspect is the son of a police veteran from Leon County, who is an exemplary employee, said Sheriff Walt McNeil. The suspect had been a long-term member of the youth advisory council of the sheriff's office and participated in a number of educational programs, so he knew how to handle a weapon, informed BBC.
