Norwegian bettors mistakenly celebrated a lottery win, but the betting company responded promptly to incorrect information and did not mistakenly pay out any money. Starting today, a new legislative amendment comes into effect, which mandates calling the police to accidents only if the damage value has exceeded the amount of 200,000 crowns. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces dissatisfaction with domestic politics, regardless of his international successes. Israel killed 74 people during an attack on a cafe in Gaza.

Norway experienced a wave of false lottery wins

The Norwegian national lottery apologized after thousands of players mistakenly learned due to a coding error that they had won high amounts in the Eurojackpot draw. Norsk Tipping receives winnings from Germany in euros and then converts them into Norwegian kroner. However, an error occurred during the conversion and the winnings were multiplied by 100, instead of being divided by 100, the company said in a Friday statement.

The Norsk Tipping company sent out messages to customers displaying incorrect, inflated winnings, and later issued a correction. The company blamed the issue on a manual encoding error. "No customer was paid a wrong win," Norsk Tipping said according to CNN.

Police only to accidents over 200,000

From today, a new statutory adjustment applies, which requires the obligation to call police officers only to accidents whose damage value exceeded 200,000 crowns. So far, the limit was half of this amount. However, the obligation to call the police still applies if a person's life was harmed, or their health or in the event that the property of a third party or state property was damaged. The increase reflects the growth in the value of cars and an effort to speed up the resolution of accidents on the spot only by participants themselves, ČTK informed.

Starmer facing domestic issues after a year in office, regardless of international successes

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is marking a year in office this week, battling rebellion within his own party over social security reform and grappling with a slow economy. Since a crushing victory in the 4th of July, 2024 election, when Starmer's center-left Labour Party won 412 out of 650 seats in the House of Commons ending a 14-year Conservative government, he has been struggling with post-Brexit governing issues.

In the last 12 months, Starmer navigated through the rapids of a turbulent world, earning praise for rallying international support for Ukraine and convincing US President Donald Trump to sign a trade deal to alleviate tariffs on British goods. However, at home his program has faltered, as he tries to convince British voters that his government is delivering the changes it promised. Inflation remains high and economic growth low, frustrating efforts to reduce the cost of living, assessed the situation in Britain by the agency AP.

Israel killed 74 people in a cafe attack

Israeli forces killed at least 74 people in Gaza on Monday, killing 30 people in airstrikes on a seaside cafe and shooting 23 Palestinians who were trying to secure desperately needed food aid, witnesses and medics told AP. One raid hit the Al-Baqa cafe in Gaza City when it was crowded with women and children, said Ali Abu Ateila, who was inside. In addition to the 30 who were killed, dozens of people were injured, many of them severely, said Fares Awad, the head of the emergency and rescue service of the Ministry of Health in northern Gaza.
