While the first day focused on the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, Friday's agenda includes a debate on the EU budget for the period 2028 to 2034 and a working lunch with representatives from neighboring countries. EU member states have finally approved an EU loan for Ukraine amounting to 90 billion euros, or roughly 2.2 trillion Czech crowns.
EU Discussed Ukraine and the Situation in the Middle East
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union is hosting an informal summit. On the first day of talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the European Union to make further efforts regarding sanctions against Russia. The agenda also included the situation in the Middle East. European Council President António Costa called for sending a "clear message of European unity and solidarity." Leaders were expected to discuss how the bloc can contribute to reducing tensions in the region, ensuring free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and how to respond to rising fuel prices, reported the Ceskenoviny.cz portal.
Ukraine will receive new financial aid from Europe

Hungary conditioned its consent to the loan on the resumption of the transit of Russian oil to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline. Meta lays off about 10 percent of employees
On Thursday, Meta announced that it is laying off approximately 8,000 workers, representing about 10 percent of its workforce. The company stated that these cuts are due to efficiency and new investments aimed at supporting the growth of its business, as reported by AP. At the same time, it continues to increase spending on investments in artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, Microsoft announced that it will offer approximately 8,750 new jobs starting in May.
Shareholders of Warner Bros approve takeover by rival Paramount
Shareholders of the American media company Warner Bros. Discovery today approved the takeover of the company by competitor Paramount Skydance for approximately 110 billion dollars, reported CNN. However, the merger of the two companies is opposed by many actors, directors, screenwriters, and other people from the film and television industry. An open letter rejecting the merger has been signed by over four thousand people, including actors like Joaquin Phoenix and actress Glenn Close. The streaming platform Netflix also previously attempted to acquire part of Warner Bros. Discovery, but its offer was unsuccessful.
The Largest African Airport is Being Built in Ethiopia for 12.5 Billion Dollars
Southeast of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, construction is underway on what the local Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has called "the largest aviation infrastructure project in African history."
