Marc Zuckerberg announced the building of a new team of top experts who are to contribute to the development of a new superintelligence. While at first glance everything may look like a manifestation of a successful millionaire's visionary efforts, it could very well be about money in the stock markets, where after announcing this experience, the market capitalization of Zuckerberg's company Meta increased. A number of technological giants compete in the development of artificial intelligence, however, the inventor's company Facebook lags behind.
When the word superintelligence is pronounced, various scenarios known from sci-fi literature come to mind. A more precise term for this technology is "General Artificial Intelligence". It refers to such artificial intelligence that surpasses the human mind in most cognitive operations.
A man who has become rich by adding likes to photos on the most widespread social network would like to be present at the discovery of such technology. Zuckerberg's company Meta has been working on artificial intelligence for some time, but in the world of advanced language models, they are not completely dominant.
Meta has been focusing on artificial intelligence for a long time. This advanced technology is also incorporated into the company's key products. In addition to Facebook, WhatsApp also uses artificial intelligence. However, OpenAI has a more advanced model and thus dominates the competition in the world of advanced language models.
At the same time, the company recently had to announce that it was suspending the presentation of its new flagship artificial intelligence model Behemoth. The reason was the unsatisfactory performance of this product. This has led to discussions about Zuckerberg's "frustration" on the issue of his company's efforts to be at the forefront of developing artificial superintelligence.
"Several updates about our efforts in the field of artificial intelligence. Our long-term vision is to create a general intelligence, responsibly open it up and make it accessible to the general public so that everyone can benefit from it. To support this, we are bringing together our two main research efforts in the field of artificial intelligence (FAIR and GenAI). Currently, we are training our next generation Llama 3 model and building a massive computational infrastructure to support our future plan,"
Zuckerberg announced his vision regarding artificial intelligence on the X network already last year.
"In the future, almost everyone will be using the power of organization of 10,000 people," he adds to the problem today. Furthermore, he would like if the artificial intelligence developed by his company could help solve one of the pressing psychological problems of the day, which is the crisis of loneliness, when many Americans are desperately missing friendly relations.
In order to achieve these grand goals, Zuckerberg announced the construction of a unique team composed of leading experts on the matter. In the first row among them should be Alexandr Wang, the 28-year-old founder and CEO of startup Scale AI, into which Meta has already invested billions of dollars. The ambitions of Facebook's inventor did not go unnoticed.
"Shares of Meta Platforms are rising by 0.65% based on a report that Mark Zuckerberg is personally hiring a Superintelligence group composed of about 50 artificial intelligence experts to create artificial general intelligence,"
noted the CTech profile on the X network focused on commenting on stock and cryptocurrency market developments.
The stakes are high in the race to develop artificial intelligence. If the current tech giants who dominate the US stock market were to fall behind, their business could fall into oblivion.
"Meta is trying to distinguish itself with its Llama model, which is freely distributable and aims to become the basis for most of the world's artificial intelligence (imagine an Android for artificial intelligence). Google believes that AI represents a significant threat to its search business: If people can ask an artificial intelligence model for an answer, why search for something? Apple understands that AI can ultimately make apps redundant, which can undermine its dominant position in the smartphone field,"
Jordan Valinsky outlined on the CNN website the fears of those who artificial intelligence may drain the pond.
