More Time on Social Media in Childhood Can Lead to Depression in Adolescence, Study Says

Children who spend more than three hours a day on social media are at a higher risk of developing depression and anxiety in adolescence. The reason, however, appears to be more due to a lack of sleep than the social media platforms themselves. This is according to a study reported by The Guardian. The study suggests that the risk increases with the amount of time spent on social media. Children who spend more than three hours a day on social media are at a higher risk of anxiety and depression compared to those who use it for only 30 minutes a day. According to the authors of the study, social media themselves are not the main cause. They believe that a lack of sleep in children plays a more crucial role.
