Venezuela faces US blockade
US President Donald Trump declared that he is ordering a "complete and total blockade" of sanctioned oil tankers arriving in and departing from Venezuela, thereby increasing pressure on the regime of the local leader Nicolás Maduro. In a post on Truth Social Trump pointed out that the United States have many soldiers and equipment in the region. He suggested that Venezuela should surrender its land, oil, and property to the United States, thus clearly indicating that one of the aims of his military campaign is not just the fight against drug trade. Caracas has already come under pressure after new sanctions against the oil sector. A tanker full of Venezuelan oil was also seized last week, reported the CNN television server.
Another conviction in the case of actor Perry's death
A court in the United States has sentenced doctor Mark Chavez to eight months of home imprisonment, who admitted to the illegal distribution of ketamine in the case of the death of famous actor Matthew Perry. According to the indictment, Chavez obtained ketamine, which was then picked up by doctor Plasencia, reported the portal Ceskenoviny.cz. He then sold it to Perry. Before the verdict, Chavez stated that he recently lost a loved one, so he understands the grief that Perry's death evoked in his close ones. Two weeks ago, the court already sent Salvador Plasencia, who had previously admitted that he sold ketamine to Perry in the weeks before his death, to prison for 2.5 years.
According to the study, most glaciers will disappear soon
Scientists warn that if global warming is not stopped, the areas where glaciers are now will decrease in the coming decades. By the end of the century, only a fraction of them will remain. A scientific study published on Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change warned that if governments do not take steps now, the planet could reach a "peak glacier extinction" phase by mid-century, with up to 4,000 glaciers melting each year. There are still about 200,000 glaciers left in the world. About 750 of them disappear every year. This pace could increase more than fivefold if global temperatures were to rise by 4 degrees Celsius, warned Al Jazeera.
