China continued for the second day with extensive military exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan, which are meant to simulate a blockade of Taiwanese ports and, according to Beijing, send a strong warning to the island. Renowned American actor George Clooney acquired French citizenship with his family. He praises the peace and quiet in the French Provence, where he bought a house with a vineyard with his family.
Chinese army conducts further military exercises around Taiwan
The Chinese army sent aerial, naval, and missile units to Taiwan on Monday to carry out new military exercises, reported by AP. Beijing labeled this action as a "stern warning" against the island's separatist tendencies. Taiwan put its forces on alert and called the Chinese government the "greatest destroyer of peace". The exercises are taking place after Beijing expressed anger over the sale of US weapons to Taiwan, and after the statement by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who said that his army could get involved in defending the island if China took steps against Taiwan.
George Clooney and his family acquire French citizenship
American actor George Clooney, along with his wife Amal Clooney and their two children, has acquired French citizenship. The actor is enjoying the peace in the French Provence.
"I love French culture and language, even though after 400 days of lessons I'm still just as bad,"
said 64-year-old Clooney at the beginning of December.
The Hollywood actor known from the series ER or the movie comedy Ocean's Eleven, together with his wife, a lawyer, bought a house with a vineyard near the town of Brignoles, located about 50 kilometers east of Marseille, in 2021, according to the portal Ceskenoviny.cz. American director Jim Jarmusch also wants to apply for French citizenship.
Brigitte Bardot will be buried in her favorite Saint-Tropez
French actress and film legend Brigitte Bardot, who died on Sunday at the age of 91, will be buried on January 7 in the southern France in the Mediterranean town of Saint-Tropez. Back in 2018, the actress told Le Monde newspaper that she wished to be buried at her summer residence La Madrague in Saint-Tropez. A source from her close circle, however, said that she will most likely be buried in the cemetery, reported the website Ceskenoviny.cz. Some residents of the town are complaining though.
"If she puts it in the cemetery, we will have buses full of tourists again,"
said allegedly one of the local women.
Avatar and Big Marty movies dominate American theaters at the end of the year
In the United States, at the turn of the year, the films Avatar: Fire and Ash and Big Supreme with actor Timothée Chalamet are doing well, according to the agency AP. Although Fire and Ash initially recorded significantly slower growth of interest in local theaters than was the case with its predecessor in 2022 Avatar: The Journey of Water, it performed much better during the second weekend. However, most people still went to see the Big Marty movie.
