The epicenter was located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, west of Naples, and about 16 kilometers south of the island of Ischia, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The region was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 last March, which the media described as the strongest in the last 40 years. At that time, over ten people suffered minor injuries, and hundreds of Naples residents spent the night in the streets following the tremors.
