On Thursday, the strike of Starbucks baristas, protesting against new dress code rules, expanded. According to the Starbucks Workers United trade union organization, representing the coffee giant's employees in the USA, over 2,000 baristas in 120 American have been on strike since Sunday. Beginning Monday, Starbucks implemented new restrictions about what their baristas can wear under their green aprons.
The dress code requires that employees in company-run and licensed shops in the USA and Canada wear solid black shirts and khaki, black or blue jeans. According to previous dress code rules, baristas were allowed to wear a wider array of dark colors and patterned shirts. Starbucks stated that the new rules will highlight their green aprons and create a sense of familiarity for customers, as it tries to create a warmer and more welcoming atmosphere in their shops, wrote the AP agency.
