Merz wants the EU to abandon the ban on combustion engine cars from 2035

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he wants the EU to abandon plans to end the sale of combustion engine cars in 2035. He states that major German car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz express doubts about this twenty-seven goal in a situation, when they have a problem to create electric cars that would withstand competition from Chinese cars, such as BYD for example. German car manufacturers are struggling with declining sales, competition from China, and American tariffs. Many companies are therefore taking cost-cutting measures and have had to lay off, reminds CTK.
