Putin agreed to a ceasefire proposal during the holidays

Russia will pause the war in Ukraine during the Easter celebrations. Moscow's move came shortly after Ukrainian President Zelensky proposed a ceasefire to Russia through the United States for this period, or the suspension of mutual attacks on the energy sector. Research among entrepreneurs confirms that the crisis in the Middle East is rapidly and significantly affecting the Czech economy, mainly through prices of energy, fuel, and material inputs.

Orthodox Easter to Temporarily Halt War in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a ceasefire in Ukraine for the Orthodox Easter. The truce will be in effect on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, for the entire day. According to the Kremlin, the Russian army will halt combat actions during this time but will be prepared to respond to potential Ukrainian strikes and "provocations." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky subsequently stated on network X that his country is ready for symmetrical actions, and that Kyiv proposed an Easter ceasefire earlier this year, which will guide their actions, reported the portal Ceskenoviny.cz. Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion since February 2022.

Higher Energy and Material Costs Impact Most Czech Companies, Research Says

The crisis in the Middle East negatively affects 93 percent of Czech companies, mainly through higher energy and material costs. This is according to a survey by the Chamber of Commerce, conducted from March 31 to April 6 among 388 respondents from companies of all sizes, industries, and regions. Companies most frequently, in 73 percent of cases, mentioned rising energy and fuel prices, and 54 percent reported an increase in the cost of materials and components, as reported by the server Ceskenoviny.cz.

New films by Paweł Pawlikowski, Japanese screenwriter and director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, and Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar will premiere at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
