The refined estimate of the result of Sunday's presidential election in Poland suggests a second round, which is scheduled for June 1. Competing for the position are the liberal mayor of Warsaw Rafal Trzaskowski and conservative politician Karol Nawrocki. The presidential election in Romania was won by pro-European Bucharest mayor Nicușor Dan, who received approximately 54 percent of the votes after counting more than 90 percent of the submitted votes.

Liberal mayor of Warsaw Rafal Trzaskowski is leading in the first round of presidential elections in Poland, according to estimates published after the closure of polling stations. Estimates give him 31.2 percent of the vote, and opposition politician Karol Nawrocki, who could get 30.8 percent of the vote. If none of the candidates receive over 50 percent of the votes needed to win, the next Polish president will be decided in the second round planned for June 1. Both politicians have already called on their supporters to mobilize for the second round. Trzaskowski has already run for president, but in 2020 he lost the decisive duel with Duda, reports the server Ceskenoviny.cz.

Pro-European centrist leads presidential race in Romania

The centrist Mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan, is apparently heading for victory in the Romanian presidential elections, according to estimates released after the close of polling stations, about 54 percent of voters voted for him, Reuters agency reported. Far-right politician George Simion received about 46 percent of the votes, the AP agency reported. After the announcement of the estimates of the results of the second round of presidential elections, the Mayor of the Romanian capital proclaimed that Romanian society had demonstrated impressive strength. The fifty-five-year-old Dan is known as a pro-Union politician and is also a supporter of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Zelenskyj met with Vance, they discussed Trump's forthcoming call with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj yesterday met with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, for the first time since their February disagreement in the White House. According to an unnamed Ukrainian source of this agency, the two leaders, who also attended the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, held talks for about half an hour. They discussed the upcoming Monday call of President Donald Trump with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Indian professor arrested over social media post

A professor of a private university in India was arrested for a social media post that was supposed to concern intelligence information about his country's military operation against Pakistan. This occurred more than a week after both neighbors agreed on a ceasefire. Assistant Professor of Political Science Ali Khan Mahmudabad is charged on the basis of paragraphs relating to incitement to armed rebellion or subversive activities and insults to religious belief, according to Al Jazeera.
