The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will start with an exhibition of 60 black and white photos of actor and president of the event Jiří Bartoška, who died of cancer this year. According to US President Donald Trump, the Thursday phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin did not bring any progress. Moscow does not want to give up its goals in Ukraine, which it has been occupying for the fourth year.
Today, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival begins, the opening of which will be dedicated to the memory of its late president Jiří Bartoška. Outdoors between the Thermal and Pupp hotels, people can view the exhibition - Jiří Bartoška – KVIFF President.
The festival will kick off with the documentary We Have to Frame It!, an informal conversation between Bartoška and producer Milan Kuchynka from 2021 directed by Jakub Juráska. The long-time president of the festival died on May 8. He was 78 years old, had been battling cancer for several years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told his American counterpart Donald Trump in a phone call that Moscow would not give up its goals in Ukraine, which include the removal of the so-called "basic causes" of conflict. Trump said he spoke with Putin about the war in Ukraine and Iran.

Trump responded to the question whether today's call brought closer the possibility of a ceasefire in Ukraine. It was the sixth publicly known conversation between the two leaders since Trump's return to the White House in January, wrote Ceskenoviny.cz.
