What had been speculated for several months has now been confirmed in Paris, where the former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the American singer Katy Perry were officially seen together for the first time. This occurred on the occasion of the singer's 41st birthday. What is behind the politician and pop star getting together?
At the end of October, photographers captured the former head of the Canadian government, Justin Trudeau, holding hands with singer Katy Perry as they left the famous Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse. Perry was dressed in a red dress and Trudeau in a casual black outfit with a black jacket. This confirmed that politics and show business currently function similarly.
According to some media, they have been together since July. They supposedly call each other daily via FaceTime and send messages. Speculation about a romance between the singer and the former Canadian Prime Minister emerged after they were spotted on a date in Montreal, Canada. This happened shortly after Perry's break-up in June with actor Orlando Bloom, to whom she was engaged. They then reportedly took a romantic walk in the park, had dinner, and later had a drink in a bar. In September, Trudeau and Perry were photographed hugging on a yacht off the California coast.
Trudeau was subsequently even spotted in the audience at one of the singer's concerts. The famous singer performed in Prague as part of her tour at the end of last month. Her biggest hits from all seven studio albums she has released so far were played in the packed hall. She constantly communicated with the audience. Using a QR code that appeared on the big screen, she also gave them the option to decide which songs would be played.
Perry, through her current work, also confirms that she no longer wants to be just a superficial pop star. Indeed, her latest lyrics and visuals increasingly refer to the end of civilization, technological dependence, and escape from reality. This may be related to the fact that she was one of the participants of last year's space flight as part of the Blue Origin mission organized by her then-partner Jeff Bezos. This was the very first American space flight with an all-female crew and overall the 11th crewed mission of this brand. And it didn't matter that it actually only lasted ten minutes and 22 seconds.
However, some critics disagree with the claim that Perry is already a mature artist and personality. Recently, for example, they criticized both the alleged kitsch of the Prague concert, and the frequent use of playback or false singing.
Trudeau also causes controversy. The Canadian ex-Prime Minister announced more than two years ago his separation from his wife Sophie Grégoire after 18 years of marriage. Since then, it has not been clear whether he is dating someone. The tabloid media claimed that he was alone. On social networks, he primarily posted posts with his three children - seventeen-year-old Xavier, sixteen-year-old Ella Grace, and eleven-year-old Hadrien.
The relationship of the pop singer with the former well-known politician raises doubts for another reason as well. Trudeau was perceived in the past more as an intellectual who doesn't really fit into the world of pop stars. And this is what could allegedly excite the singer's desire. She is reportedly flattered that someone so respected from the political sphere is interested in her. Moreover, his father Pierre also had a relationship with a singer. He too was a symbol of a cultivated and thoughtful statesman. Nevertheless, he did not refrain from a short romance with Barbra Streisand. Trudeau, who announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister of the country in January this year, to be replaced by economist Mark Carney, now faces another challenge - to defend before the public that the relationship with the singer is not a random event, but a well-thought-out step.
However, the skeptics have a different opinion. According to them, the desire to be seen and talked about brought the lovers together. And thanks to social media, almost everyone now knows about this connection.
"Politics has never been immune to the demand for a "good show". However, it used to be easier in that traditional media controlled their image and stories. Today everyone has Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, and whatever gains "engagement" immediately becomes part of the public story. Technology has "canceled" backstage secrets and the distance of the podium from the audience,"
For example, columnist Miloš Čermák wrote about it in his gloss for SeznamZprávy.
