Heading to a sunlit vacation in one of the Arab emirates in winter was an unheard-of luxury a few years ago, today it has transformed into a completely ordinary travel routine.

People caught off guard by the sudden change in the security situation are sometimes even surprised by what's happening, and the rockets exploding overhead spoil their vacation. Mass tourism has gone this far today.

A number of Dubai vacationers probably do not concern themselves with the development of the international political situation in the region. They go to the emirates to enjoy the sun and the oil wealth amenities in the middle of the desert. They don't feel the need to ponder the whims of Donald Trump.

Safety has become as taken for granted as the air we breathe, yet nothing about these things is automatic. Isn't it logical to be concerned about whether I will be safe with my family on vacation if I travel thousands of kilometers? Enjoying a globalized world, where covering distances of thousands of kilometers has become comparable to a trip to a neighboring city, completely suppresses this type of thinking.

We can compare it to the crowds of tourists in Greece who were caught off guard by fires or earthquakes. Both occur annually in this popular country full of islands.

“Dubai is being bombarded and it’s not pleasant. Rockets were flying right over the area where I live. That Dubai would be bombarded if the Americans attacked Iran was clearly stated 2-3 months ago. Nobody was surprised, and the air defense works excellently. You can't sleep peacefully when rockets are exploding over your head,”

commented well-known music producer Jaro Slávik, who has been residing in the country for a long time, about the situation in Dubai. He decided to leave the city after an Iranian drone was shot down by a rocket above him.

The detachment from reality can be taken to an even higher level than by somewhat ignorant tourists. An unnamed real estate agent and participant in the reality show Survivor began cheerfully asserting on social media that nothing is happening in Dubai. Prospective buyers of properties there might develop similar impressions as the former judge from SuperStar.

For business, it's of course a devastating blow. Business simply has its risks. However, ignoring the real situation does not change the essence of the matter.

We are witnessing with our own eyes the consequences of changes in the world order, primarily brought about by Donald Trump, on everyday life. Through their policies, the "Trumpists" aim to put a stop to globalization and open the door for the rule of the strong over the weak, regardless of international law.

In such a world, there is significantly less room for cheerful travel hopping by plane between countries thousands of kilometers apart. The change in situation will be appreciated by Trump's conservatives, whether it be Americans themselves or their populist derivatives in Europe or elsewhere in the world, as well as their environmentally oriented fellow citizens.

Apart from the extravagant flights to the Middle East, oil prices are also expected to increase, and consequently, so will fuel prices. The carbon footprint could therefore happily start to decrease. Bombing Iran may not bring Trump the coveted Nobel Peace Prize, but recognition from some environmental organization might be on the table.

The price of oil in the markets has skyrocketed at the fastest rate in the past 4 years; coincidentally, last week we commemorated 4 years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Before the weekend, there was no sign of expensive fuel prices. If tourists start to flow back to Dubai once the situation calms down, there won't be any environmental awards left for Trump.
