Providers of AI chatbots, including ChatGPT and Grok, face strict measures against illegal content in Britain as the government promises swift steps to ensure greater online safety for children. “Today we are closing the gaps that put children at risk and laying the groundwork for further measures,” stated British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in a Monday announcement, according to CNN.
British interventions come at a time when artificial intelligence and social media are once again under fire for the potential harm they can cause to young people, following the chatbot Grok generating sexualized images of women and children on platform X for several weeks, sparking a large global backlash.
