Italian cuisine is known and loved around the world for its fresh ingredients and delicious flavors. On Wednesday, the United Nations' cultural agency gave gourmets another reason to celebrate pizza, pasta and tiramisu by adding Italian cuisine to the list of "intangible" world cultural heritage.
UNESCO added the rituals associated with the preparation and consumption of Italian food to its list of traditional practices and expressions. This is a designation that is celebrated alongside the more famous list of UNESCO World Heritage, where Italy is well represented with places such as the Roman Colosseum and the ancient city of Pompeii, as reported by AP. However, specific recipes are not included in the record, so whether spaghetti has officially become a cultural specialty of Italy is uncertain.
Petr Pavel warns against future government plans to end aid to Ukraine
Representatives of the emerging government coalition led by appointed Prime Minister Andrej Babiš repeatedly talk about ending support for Ukraine, which is resisting aggression from neighboring Russia. The problem was most recently discussed by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura (SPD).
"Even if I overlooked solidarity, the protection of principles and values, if I were to look at it pragmatically, it would not make sense for us to interrupt our support for Ukraine now. Because in doing so, we would close the door on potential further cooperation in the reconstruction of Ukraine, which will come sooner or later. So even those who are not tuned in to the idea that a country under attack should be helped, should look at it in the sense that security support for Ukraine increases our security in the future and it could also be a significant economic opportunity," commented President Petr Pavel on the trip to citizens in Liberec according to ČTK.
The original Star Wars poster painting auctioned off for an astronomical sum
The painting that introduced "Star Wars" to the world nearly 50 years ago and was reproduced on an iconic movie poster was sold at auction on Wednesday for $3.875 million. The acrylic painting created with an airbrush by artist and movie poster designer Tom Jung first appeared in newspaper advertisements on May 13, 1977, less than two weeks before the premiere of George Lucas's space epic. It also adorned billboards, magazine advertisements, and theater programs. The film's producer "Star Wars" Gary Kurtz kept the original painting and hung it on the wall of his office before passing it to his daughter, reported by the AP agency.
