The United States and Ukraine have signed an "economic partnership agreement" that will allow Washington access to Ukrainian minerals and rare earths in exchange for the creation of an investment fund in Ukraine. The USA and Ukraine have been trying to seal a natural resources agreement since January, when US President Donald Trump returned to the White House.
The agreement comes after weeks of intense negotiations, which at times descended into personal invective and temporarily thwarted Washington's assistance to Ukraine. The US Department of the Treasury announced on Wednesday that both countries had signed the agreement. "As the president has said, the United States is committed to helping facilitate an end to this cruel and senseless war," said Finance Minister Scott Bessent in a statement, according to CNN.
