Tension in Los Angeles escalated on Sunday when thousands of protesters took to the streets in response to the extraordinary deployment of the National Guard by President Donald Trump, blocked the main highway and set self-driving cars on fire, while law enforcement used tear gas, rubber bullets and flashbangs to control the crowd.
