Martin Bartkovský in Karlovy Vary

The film festival in Karlovy Vary is significant on many fronts - not just for film enthusiasts and people in the industry. It is also a major event for journalists. Martin Bartkovský was also present, with whom we among other things discussed his stance on the current cases of MEP Filip Turk. The conversation also touched on Elon Musk and Donald Trump.

Martin Bartkovský is a well-known journalist who previously worked for Czech Television or TV Nova. He is currently in charge of the traditional weekly Reflex. In recent years, he is known primarily as a political commentator, who also makes his positions known at various public events.

He is also known for his satirical online reports, during which he, for example, live-commented on the court process with Andrej Babiš in the Čapí hnízdo case.

Turek should face the case like a man

Recently, he has been sharply criticizing the "square alphasamce" Filip Turk, who is facing accusations of rape and domestic violence. Emails sent from his personal mailbox, which he used to send to his ex-girlfriend in the past, talk about these crimes. In them, for example, he mentions that he hit her in affect. Investigative journalist Apolena Rychlíková reported on these emails.

However, according to his own words, Martin Bartkovský does not perceive his positions as criticism.

"I'm just pointing out things that he as a Member of the European Parliament should not be doing. I think it's certainly unfortunate and he should stand up to it like a man. And say what really happened, how it was, and not trivialize victims of sexualized domestic violence. Today, an article came out where emails of Filip Turk appeared, containing quite disturbing things, so the MEP should probably explain what he meant in those emails at that time,"

explains.

Agrees with Elon Musk

Having discussed the situation of a domestic politician, we also asked directly about events across the pond. We were interested to know what he thinks of the current events surrounding the American president Donald Trump and his now-former advisor, billionaire Elon Musk, who are currently embroiled in both political and personal disputes.

"I have noted that he is just pointing out that the law, which Donald Trump pushed through now, the budget he had approved, is not good for America, which I also believe,"

Admits.

However, he prefers to watch America from afar from his native country.

"I like it in the Czech Republic and if I had to choose, I would rather live in America without Trump. I'm afraid they wouldn't even let me into America with Trump,"

says Bartkovský.

Kviff? A festival of films

As a journalist, he regularly visits the Film Festival in Karlovy Vary. And he seems to enjoy returning here.

"I would prefer if no one looked at Vary differently than a film festival, because that's primarily what it's about here, as evidenced by the number of those actors who come here and the amount of films that are on display here. And above all, the number of people who come to watch them."
