Israel early Friday morning attacked the Iranian capital and its nuclear facility, increasing the possibility of an outbreak of total war between the two hostile Middle Eastern states. It was the most significant attack Iran faced since the war with Iraq in the 80s.
The strikes came amid a heated tension due to Iran's rapidly advancing nuclear program and seemed certainly to provoke retaliation, with supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning that a "severe punishment" will be directed against Israel. Several sites across the country were hit, including Iran's main uranium enrichment facility, from which black smoke could be seen rising into the air, reported agency AP
