The zoo in Denmark is asking for donations of small domestic animals as food for its predators. Aalborg Zoo stated that it is trying to mimic the natural food chain of the animals being raised here, "in the interest of good animal welfare and professional integrity", and assures that domestic animals will be "humanely euthanized" by trained staff. The zoo in the north of Denmark explained in its Facebook post that "if you have a healthy animal that needs to be given away for various reasons, do not hesitate to donate it to us".
As potential gifts for the zoo's consumption, guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens are listed. After being put down, the animals will be used as feed. "In this way, nothing will go to waste - and we ensure the natural behavior, nutrition and comfort of our predators," said the zoo. The online call to donate animals is accompanied by a picture of a wild cat, baring its teeth with an open mouth, and a link to the zoo's website, where it is stated that the facility is also interested in accepting horses, the agency AP wrote.
